Hanson
La Zona Rosa
Austin, Texas
As we all know, one of the biggest curse of being considered a "pop" band is that it is hard to gain true artistic recognition for your work. Oklahoma-native band Hanson is a prime example of this true test of musical overcoming. Starting out over 10 years ago, the band blasted on to the national scene in 1996 as one of the biggest pop sensations since the great pop wave of the 50s and 60s. Now, nearly 8 years later, the band is reinventing their sound to include softer acoustic sounds and more mature lyric content. What is most obvious when seeing their live show is that these boys have done much more than grown older, they have developed their abilities as artists and fine-tuned their wonderful voices to produce an overall unforgettable sound. Their current short acoustic tour features no opening band for a portion of the tour, smaller venues (than their usual arenas and major theatres), and a more personal approach to expressing their music. Overall, I was fairly impressed and I am looking forward greatly to the upcoming album that is due out in the near future.
