Louque - "So Long" Debut Release
Album Review
By: Elizabeth Pardieu

Louque is coming. May 18 th marks the release of their debut album, "So Long," an irresistibly enticing masterpiece with mystery enveloped in the tones of vocalist Dustan Louque's smooth voice. The album is a breath of fresh air; a far cry from the over-produced pop garbage dominating radio waves and network television. The mellow, relaxing mood of the songs is hypnotic and mesmerizing. The sound produced is described by Louque as 'faya' - a native sound immersed in the band's Louisiana culture encompassing influences throughout music genres including folk, soul, electronic, and dancehall. The result - an unbeatable sound that stimulates the senses and leaves you begging for more. Featured on the album is a marvelous cover of Mazzy Star's "Cry Cry" that truly captures the essence of the song. There are eight original tracks featured on the album, including my notable favorite, "Still in Waiting," a mellow track with brilliant lyrics. The depth of this music is remarkable; it is not a far fetch to say that this is quite possibly the best album of 2004.
